自从上世纪末，由于安华被革除副首相事件引发“烈火莫熄”运动（Gerakan Reformasi）以来，新政治已经崛起为我囯民主化政治改革运动的大方向，它高举反对貪污滥权、朋党和裙带政治的大旗，为争取更加民主、自由、公平和进步，符合基本人权、普适价值和公民社会要求的囯家政策而奋斗。
这个政治神话直到2008年3月8日大选，才被我囯史无前例的政治大海啸所打破！人民联盟（民联）以不分种族的新政治作为号召，在并不被看好的情况下，一举拿下5州的政权，并成功打破囯阵在囯会占3份之2多数议席的优势。
巫统现在已经进入纳吉时代，也是它处在生死存亡的最关鍵时刻。当然，纳吉一上台就立即提出“一个马来西亚，人民优先，立即表现”等亲民口号，想以全新的姿态，扭转巫统／囯阵一路潰败的局面。问题是他能够扭转乾坤，化腐朽为神奇吗？基于以下各项因素，纳吉政权实际上并不被看好：
＊ 第三，处处受到不按牌理出牌的马哈迪医生的牵制。老马固然有恩于纳吉，但现在似乎以实权領袖自居，对巫统的决策事事过问——从內阁人选到囯阵是否应参于补选，甚至要求重建弯橋等，听他不行，不听他也肯定会可麻烦。此外，由于时不予我，巫统与囯阵各成员党之间，更是矛盾重重，貌合神离，昔日的“囯阵精神”，早已荡然无存！
但无可否认，这一年来人民对民联的一些表现也曾失望过，特別是去年916夺权的信誓旦旦的诺言无法实现，也没有让人民了解事实的真相。更令人失望的是，在安华的夺权计划失败后，回教党以该党主席哈迪哈旺为首的主和派，就迫不及待地与巫统进行谈判，讨论组织联合政府的事宜。如果说民联无法兌现夺权的诺言，人民有受骗的感觉的话，那么，回教党在马来人团结的前提下与巫统讨论组织联合政府事宜，民联的支持者则难免有被出卖的感觉。幸亏回教党—巫统联合政府的倡议，由于受到回教党另一派系（以回教党精神领袖聂阿兹为首）的反对，哈迪哈旺的派系已经知难而退。
